Mamuju, West Sulawesi (ANTARA) - Acting Governor of West Sulawesi Bahtiar Baharuddin conveyed his province's aspirations to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and ministers during a working meeting of regional heads in Indonesia's new capital city Nusantara, East Kalimantan.

With a huge potential to support the Nusantara development, West Sulawesi is proposing to open flight routes from Mamuju, the capital of the province, to cities near the new capital city, such as Sepinggan Airport in Balikpapan and Samarinda Airport in East Kalimantan.

Baharuddin, in a statement issued here on Tuesday, informed that the aspirations include opening sea connectivity and increasing the mobility of people and goods between West Sulawesi and Nusantara.

The acting governor also called for assistance in building a container port. According to him, a container port is important to transport West Sulawesi's farm produce and marine products to Nusantara.

The port can also support the downstreaming of natural products in the province, he added.

"Please build container (port) because so far, West Sulawesi has not had a container port, which makes the flow of logistics to outside (areas) difficult," Baharuddin said.

He arrived in Nusantara city on Monday, and is scheduled to return to West Sulawesi on Wednesday after attending a working meeting.

Earlier, he also informed Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, and other regional heads in Nusantara of the province's potential.

"West Sulawesi province has various potentials that can support Nusantara," he said.

He pointed out that West Sulawesi has a lot of potential that will develop with the presence of IKN, such as Mamasa orchids, the production of fruits, vegetables, ornamental plants, medicinal plants, saltwater fish, and freshwater fish, which can be sold in Nusantara.
