Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia can emerge as the center of artificial intelligence (AI) development in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) by ensuring synergy among relevant domestic stakeholders, Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics Nezar Patria stated.

In his office's statement cited here on Wednesday, Patria noted that solid collaboration among all relevant stakeholders would help Indonesia devise the policies and initiatives required to tap into AI's full potential.

With the objective of managing AI growth, the deputy minister said the Indonesian Government had issued a circular concerning AI ethics that accentuates the aspects of inclusion, transparency, security, and accessibility as well as spotlights respect for human rights.

"The integration of these aspects is expected to ensure that AI can provide equitable and far-reaching benefits to people from all levels of society," he stressed.

He then drew attention to the Artificial Intelligence Industry Research and Innovation Collaboration (KORIKA), saying that the organization had been supporting the creation of AI innovations in the country.

Patria noted that KORIKA had been consistent in organizing the annual AI Innovation Summit (AIIS) to facilitate discussions on the latest AI developments.

Meanwhile, in the regional term, the deputy minister remarked that the ASEAN had introduced the ASEAN Guideline on AI Governance and Ethics.

He explained that the regional guideline aims to assist governments and organizations in Southeast Asia in responsibly designing, developing, and implementing an AI system.

He stated that the guideline highlights the main principles of equalization, transparency, convenience, and humanity.

"This guideline focuses on the fair and transparent use of AI in a way that can boost people's welfare. By upholding the principles, we can expect to see accountable and inclusive use of AI," he pointed out.
