Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office in Bali deported an Interpol fugitive from Canada for his involvement in a fraud case in Lebanon.

"The perpetrator is included on Interpol's red list at the request of the Lebanese government," Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Suhendra, stated on Wednesday.

The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office deported the perpetrator, with the initials GRS, to Montreal, Canada, via I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old man has been on the Interpol list since February 8, 2024, for committing an investment fraud, with losses estimated at US$350 thousand.

Based on information from the Ngurah Rai Immigration, GRS, who has dual citizenship of Lebanon and Canada, entered Indonesian territory on October 28, 2023.

He entered Indonesia via the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport using a visa-on-arrival (VoA) facility.

Suhendra revealed that GRS also violated immigration regulations by overstaying when his immigration residence permit expired on December 26, 2023.

"After coordinating with Interpol, we deported GRS on Wednesday," he stated.

The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office deported 86 foreign nationals from January to August 11, 2024, for various reasons such as overstaying, misuse of stay permits, and involvement in criminal cases.

In addition, 121 foreign nationals were temporarily detained, nine had their stay permits canceled, and 71 were prevented from entering Indonesia.

Suhendra remarked that countries with the highest number of people deported were China, with 12 people, followed by Nigeria, with eight people, and Iran, with six people.

The Immigration Offices in Bali are spread across the Singaraja Immigration Office in Buleleng-Bali; Denpasar-Bali; and Ngurah Rai, Badung-Bali.

According to data from the Bali Provincial Law and Human Rights Office, 258 foreign nationals were deported from Bali from January to July 19, 2024.

In 2023, as many as 340 foreign nationals were deported, an increase as compared to 2022, when 188 foreign nationals were expelled from Bali.
