While opening the training activity in Bogor, West Java, on Monday (August 19), BNN Director of Enforcement and Pursuit Roy Hardi Siahaan explained that the event aims to equip Southeast Asian and Mongolian law enforcement trainers with standardized capabilities for handling drug trafficking.
"In addition to giving trainers skills that will enable them to quickly respond to emerging threats, this training activity also aims to promote regional cooperation and support continuous improvements in law enforcers' capacity," he noted in the agency's statement received here on Tuesday.
The training of trainers activity, being held on August 19-30, also seeks to help 28 trainers from Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Mongolia devise strategies to manage border areas, which are considered hot spots of drug trafficking.

Siahaan underlined that drug trafficking, which he describes as an organized transnational crime that takes advantage of differing legal systems and weak border surveillance, has been posing major threats to various countries.
He emphasized the need for the Southeast Asian region to determine an agreed standard for law enforcement training activities to ensure that efforts aimed at augmenting the capacity of law enforcers can significantly boost the efficiency of actions against drug trafficking.
Meanwhile, National Programme Officer of UNODC Indonesia Nabiel Abdul Karim Hayaze noted that the regional training of trainers serves as the first of its kind ever organized jointly by BNN and his office.
He expressed hope that the activity would produce standardized anti-drug trafficking trainers that wield the capacity to contribute to various trainings organized by UNODC.
