"I hope that the experience we have gained here can be an inspiration in developing villages in our respective countries," the ministry’s Director General of Development of Disadvantaged Regions Sugito noted in a written statement received here on Thursday.
He conveyed this statement while attending the 2nd SOMRDPE and AVN Gala Dinner in Batu City, East Java, on August 28.
The event was held for the second time from August 28 to September 1, 2024.
Batu City and Malang District were selected as the event locations based on both regions' success in developing villages and tourism.
Sugito remarked that the delegates were scheduled to visit several local villages.
The visit was expected to provide an understanding to the delegates about development in the area and the concept idea of village development that can be applied in their respective countries.
"Visits to these villages will provide valuable lessons about how to build a village that does not only economically progress but is also sustainable and in harmony with nature and culture," Sugito stated.
One of the villages that the delegates would visit is Tulungrejo in Batu City, which is known as the center of organic agriculture. The village plays an important role in maintaining environmental health and improving the farmers’ welfare.
Furthermore, the delegates will watch the Kanjuruhan Culture Carnival that would display an array of traditional arts, dances, and cultural performances.
Sugito emphasized the important role of SOMRDPE and AVN in sharing knowledge and innovation in village development among ASEAN countries.
