"The president asked pesantren leaders to help ensure the (leadership transition) proceeds well," Miftah Maulana Habiburrahman, the leader of Ora Aji Pesantren, based in Sleman District, Yogyakarta, stated on Thursday.
Miftah made the remarks following President Jokowi's closed-door meeting with representatives of Java Island-wide young Muslim clerics at the Ora Aji Pesantren.
The pesantren leader, affectionately known as Gus Miftah, said the president's hope was delivered after he commended the smooth leadership transition from Jokowi to Prabowo.
He said the president was keen to ensure that the leadership transition proceeds well so Prabowo could promptly start work after the inauguration of Prabowo and his vice president, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, on October 20, 2024.
"(It is) because during the start of my presidency (in 2014), we need to tiptoe prudently," Miftah quoted Jokowi as saying.
He also assured that President Jokowi will not intervene politically in Prabowo's presidency despite the establishment of new agencies planned to operate under the incoming government, during Jokowi's term.
"Instead of intervention, he called for collaboration," the pesantren leader stated.
Miftah also echoed the president's keenness to retreat for one to two weeks to his hometown, Surakarta, in Central Java, after the new leader takes office. Jokowi, who by the time will be the former president, also planned to tour the city to meet residents, he added.
In his final month of presidency, Widodo started working at the new capital, Nusantara, from September 12 and will continue to do so until October 19, 2024. During that period, he will also conduct working visits to various regions of Indonesia.
During the final meeting of his Onward Indonesia Cabinet at Nusantara's Garuda Palace on September 13, the president called on the cabinet ministers to ensure the continuity of ongoing programs and policies and to carry out incomplete tasks and duties in the last month of their tenure.
