Jakarta (ANTARA) - The utilization of village funds in 2025 will be focused on financing initiatives aimed at mitigating negative effects of climate change, Finance Ministry's director of Village Funds, Incentives, Special Autonomy, and Privileges, Jaka Sucipta said.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Village, Development of Disadvantaged Regions And Transmigration
on Friday, Sucipta elaborated that the focus on climate change is driven by the fact that Indonesia stands as the world's second-most disaster-prone country, losing up to Rp50 trillion (US$3.3 billion) annually due to disasters.

Speaking at the International Seminar and Launch of Actions on Collaborative Climate Resilient Villages in Bali on Thursday (September 26) night, he underscored the need for the government and the public to pay special attention to Indonesia's vulnerability.

"Therefore, we seek to mobilize funds, including at the village level, so that they (villages) can take their own initiatives, including those related to climate change," he remarked.

Sucipta noted that the Ministry of Finance had been involved in rural development efforts by allocating the state budget for village funds and mapping disaster-prone villages across the country.

The mapping result would serve as a basis for determining the amount of village funds that need to be channeled for climate change mitigation measures, he said.

"Mapping is vital because Indonesia is home to over 75 thousand villages. The mapping has been done, and next, we will group villages into the categories of red, yellow, and green based on their level of vulnerability," he added.

The official also emphasized that the use of village funds has always been adjusted to the condition and needs of each village every year.

"With support from village companion officials and participation from locals, village governments are expected to fully draw on the village funds to achieve self-reliance," he said.
