According to an LPDP release received here Wednesday, the launch of the scholarship is one of the real steps to improve and develop human resources in the field of sports, especially athletes, former athletes, and sports personnel, based on Law Number 11 of 2022 concerning Sports.
"The endowment fund for Indonesian education should be used by the best talents in Indonesia, including in the field of sports," Acting President Director of LPDP Andin Hadiyanto said in the statement.
The scholarship is also a part of the government's commitment to the long-term development of sports.
On the same occasion, Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo emphasized that the program is very important to encourage the development of sports science, strengthen the sports ecosystem, and advance the sports industry in Indonesia.
"This is our small step but with great enthusiasm for a better future for Indonesian athletes. We move forward together, supporting their achievements and education for the future of Indonesian sports," Ariotedjo said.
Therefore, he expressed the hope that the scholarship program will receive support from sports observers, the media, and the public.
He explained that the LPDP scholarship program in the sports sector is intended for Indonesian citizens who are engaged in the sports sector, including e-sports.
It aims to support them financially to pursue a master's or doctoral degree, both at domestic and overseas universities, he said, adding that the program will be implemented and opened for Indonesian sports actors from 2025.
