"Younger generations need flexibility to pursue careers, switch professions, and create job opportunities. On-demand jobs are essential, and the Prakerja Card is the only program that accommodates this need," he remarked.
Speaking during a dialogue with former Prakerja beneficiaries in Jakarta on Thursday, Hartarto suggested that it is beneficial for people to continue learning after graduating, including participating in training programs.
He argued that with the rapid advancement of technology, as seen with the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), continuous learning is more important than ever.
He pointed out that the widespread use of AI may pose risks to both blue-collar and white-collar workers.
"This is why the Prakerja Card Program is necessary to bridge the gap between recent graduates and job market demands," he emphasized.
On Wednesday, Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Susiwijono Moegiarso, expressed hope that the next government would continue the program.
Since its launch in April 2020, the Prakerja Card Program has helped 18.9 million people improve their skills, Moegiarso stated.
He noted that beneficiaries receive training scholarships worth Rp3.5 million (US$227), which can be used for various activities, including webinars, offline training, and independent courses.
A study by Svara Institute in 2023 found that former Prakerja beneficiaries experienced a 17.6 percent higher income increase compared to non-beneficiaries, the official added.
