"More than a mere seat of government, Nusantara also serves as a common house for Indonesian cultures," he remarked on the sidelines of the Nusantara Cultural Festival, held in the city's government core area in North Penajam Paser District on Saturday.
He praised the festival as a testament to the government's commitment to preserving the cultural heritage and building an ecosystem in which culture can thrive in the new capital.
The Nusantara Cultural Festival is being held from May 30 to June 1 under the theme "Nusantara is Us, We are Nusantara."
The event brings together around 500 participants from 23 contingents, showcasing Indonesia's rich cultural diversity through various forms, including art performances, crafts, and culinary offerings.
In addition, the event features a bazaar displaying products from micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Minister Zon emphasized the importance of the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) playing a role in cultural development by providing space for arts and cultural communities from across the country.
He noted that this approach aligns with the government’s determination to advance local cultures in the face of globalization and acculturation.
He also stated that under President Prabowo Subianto’s leadership, the government aims to harness Indonesia's cultural diversity as a form of soft power on the global stage.
To that end, he called on the public to support the development of Nusantara as the new center of Indonesian civilization and a source of inspiration for the world.
He further noted that Nusantara's development should be guided by Law No. 5 of 2017 on cultural advancement and Law No. 21 of 2023 on the capital city.
