Minister of Social Affairs, Saifullah Yusuf, said here on Thursday that the process of data synchronization of middle class people who are vulnerable and affected by layoffs is being carried out by the ministry's Data and Information Center team.
"There are also vulnerable ones in the middle class group and go down the level because of layoffs, like, they become poor. We are constantly anticipating this," he added after providing social assistance to poor and vulnerable people in Ambon city, Maluku.
Based on data from the Ministry of Manpower, the number of workers who were laid off in January–August 2024 reached 46,240. In 2023, at least 57,923 workers lost their jobs.
Looking at this data, Yusuf said that the Social Affairs Ministry will continue to intensively coordinate with the relevant ministries and other institutions to obtain the latest and valid data regarding the number of middle class people who are vulnerable to layoffs.
The minister added that his side is collaborating with local governments and family companions of government aid beneficiaries across regions to obtain accurate data in keeping with the identity number (NIK).
"We want the data to be accurate first. The more it is in line with NIK, the more it is accurate. We are perfecting this and integrating it between institutions. Only then we can determine the next step," Yusuf said.
