Solo (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is expected to open the 17th Solo National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) 2024 at the Manahan Stadium in Surakarta, Central Java, Sunday (October 6).

Acting Chief of the 2024 Peparnas Committee, Susanto, stated here on Friday that the invitation to open Perparnas had been conveyed to President Jokowi.

"For now, the information we received says that the president will attend in person. We have also coordinated with the Palace protocol," he remarked.

Meanwhile, he said confirmation on whether the president would attend the sports event would be given the next day.

"We hope that he can open the 2024 Peparnas. His presence can offer more enthusiasm, both for the athletes and officials, as well as the organizing committee," he explained.

In addition to inviting the president, his side has sent invitations to governors across Indonesia and several related ministers.

"We have also invited stakeholders related to sports. Hopefully, the invitees can be present at the opening," he noted.

Moreover, his side has distributed 9,895 tickets to the public for free via a quiz on the official website of 17th Solo Peparnas.

Various activities, including a micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSMEs) festival, will be part of the 2024 National Paralympic Week. The MSME festival will be held in front of the Velodrome Manahan.

So far, thousands of athletes and officials from 34 contingents have arrived in Solo.

Earlier, the government said it had disbursed a budget of Rp290 billion (US$19.2 million) for Peparnas.

The 17th Peparnas, scheduled on October 6–13, 2024, will see participation from 4,625 para athletes across Indonesia.
