"The government has been considering this because not all sports have strong financial support," said Lilik Sudarwati, head of KONI’s Sport Science Division, on Friday.
She mentioned that one of the government’s efforts is to facilitate communication and collaboration with the Endowment Fund for Education Agency (LPDP) to improve the quality of human resources in sports.
"This is expected to bridge universities and sports because, when it comes to sports science, the scope is on campus," Sudarwati, a former badminton player, explained.
She noted that collaboration is expected to support the National Sports Grand Design (DBON), which aims for Indonesia to become one of the top five nations in sports achievement by 2045.
"This means we need to build qualified human resources and facilities," she remarked.
Sudarwati said that improving the quality of coaching requires support from various stakeholders, including higher education institutions.
KONI and the University of Indonesia are currently working together to establish a Department of Sports Psychology.
"We are developing this to bridge the gap between practitioners and funding by involving the campus to support sports management or clubs," Sudarwati said.
