Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia needs to create nine million digital talents by 2035 to face digital challenges and achieve the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision, director of digital economy governance at the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry, Yuana Rochma Astuti, said.

"The government has collaborated with many digital giants, universities, with Penta helix collaboration," she noted at the ICStar Hackathon 2024 in Jakarta on Monday.

Astuti said that every year, 600 thousand new digital talents will need to be created to achieve the target of nine million digital talents by 2035.

However, the government can only produce 200 thousand to 400 thousand graduates with digital skills at present.

Therefore, collaboration is required to jointly meet the needs for digital talents so that Indonesia can compete on the global stage.

This is deemed necessary because Indonesia is far behind other ASEAN countries in terms of digital talent.

Collaboration in the form of digital development programs in universities is expected to encourage Indonesia to become a new engine of growth.

She further said that the Ministry of Tourism—one of the ministries carved out from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy—can focus more on developing 17 sub-sectors of the creative economy industry, especially digital content.

Other sub-sectors like gaming, application, animation, television, film, radio, architecture, and art are also expected to become significant contributors to Indonesia's economic growth.

She noted that each ministry and agency has a digital talent development program, therefore they are expected to help tackle the issue of digital talent shortage in Indonesia.

She expressed the hope that digital development events by universities would be carried out not only on Java island but all regions in the country, and will help stimulate the emergence of new startups in the digital field.
