Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government is considering transforming the state-run logistics firm Bulog into an autonomous body directly under the president's control.

Minister of State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform (PAN-RB) Rini Widyantini said her ministry is evaluating Bulog's future structure and the status of its employees.

"We have yet to decide what Bulog will become," she said in Jakarta on Monday.

Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, earlier said that Bulog, which is responsible for food distribution and price control, will be reformed as a government body under President Prabowo Subianto.

"(Bulog's reform) has been decided at a meeting presided over by President Prabowo," Hasan said after attending the inaugural coordination meeting on Bulog reform on November 29.

The reform will strengthen Bulog's role in supporting food supply and stabilizing food prices nationwide, he added.

Hasan expressed hope that the transformation would be carried out promptly to help achieve the government's food self-sufficiency target by 2027.

Meanwhile, National Food Agency (Bapanas) head Arief Prasetyo Adi stated that the reform will strengthen Bulog's ability to implement its food resilience programs.

"We support Bulog's transformation to strengthen the nation's food security and fulfill the government's vision on food self-sufficiency and Indonesia becoming the world's food barn," he said in a statement on Sunday.

Adi emphasized the need to transform Bulog to optimize post-harvest infrastructure and ensure better absorption of domestic food production.
