Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Industry Ministry took firm action against imported products without an Indonesian National Standard (SNI) certificate as part of its commitment to maintaining the domestic industrial climate.

"The ministry continues its supervision on products subjected to SNI obligation. In our routine supervision, we had secured electronic products, safety footwear, toys, and agricultural machinery without SPPT SNI," the ministry's Inspector General, Mohammad Rum, revealed on Wednesday.

SPPT SNI refers to the Product Certificate for Use of the SNI Marking.

On December 16, the ministry and the police confiscated several products without SNI certificates, including 1,320 semi-automatic sprayers worth Rp396 million (US$23 thousand) and 1,701 pairs of safety footwear priced at Rp2.8 billion (US$169 thousand) of the brands Caterpillar, Navigo, and Septigo.

Other seized items comprised toys from various brands totaling 44,133 units, with a total value of Rp1.5 billion (US$90 thousand), of the brands Hochihoku and Zavanese, and active speaker products totaling 196 units valued at Rp311 million (US$18 thousand) of the brands W-King, Urbano, and Hafsun.

Furthermore, the ministry's Head of the Industrial Services Policy Standardization Agency (BSKJI), Andi Rizaldi, stated that business actors selling products without SPPT SNI should cease their activities and prohibit the circulation of products with these brands in Indonesia.

"We urge all business actors to stop importing and selling those products. The Industry Ministry also reminds other business actors, both importers and producers, to immediately certify their products with SNI as required by the Minister of Industry," Rizaldi remarked.

The BSKJI head said his side would continue supervising business actors to comply with the SNI provisions stipulated in Law Number 3 of 2014 concerning Industry.

According to Rizaldi, the confiscated products are mostly imported from China.

He cautioned that without SPPT SNI, these products could potentially endanger the safety and security of users and damage business competition in the country.
