Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President (VP) Gibran Rakabuming Raka visited the Jatiluhur I Regional Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) facilities in Bekasi, West Java, as a source of clean water for the Indonesian people to overcome stunting.

The water infrastructure is a national strategic program designed to increase public access to clean water, which aligns with President Prabowo Subianto's vision of realizing water self-sufficiency to improve people's quality of life.

"The president is highly concerned about stunting. There are many things we must do to overcome stunting, starting from problems related to pregnant women, their babies, their food needs, their homes, sanitation, drainage, and most importantly, clean water," Gibran remarked here on Friday (Dec 20).

On that occasion, Gibran called on the managers to manage water sustainably so that the national strategic program can provide benefits to the community in a sustainable manner.

The vice president also urged the management to consistently ensure the distribution of clean water and maintain water quality to meet national standards.

Hence, the visit was intended to check the availability and readiness of water supply to meet the needs of the surrounding community, especially in the areas of Jakarta, Bekasi, Bekasi District, and Karawang District.

SPAM Regional Jatiluhur I officially started operating on Thursday (Dec 18). The national strategic project is known to have begun its construction on January 19, 2022.

With a total capacity of 4,750 liters per second, the facility is projected to serve 380 thousand household connections (SR) in stages over the next five years.

This capacity is equivalent to providing quality clean water for 1.9 million people in four surrounding areas.
