Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Defense, here on Saturday, opened the "History Corridor" educational tour at the ministry's building.

The ministry's Head of the Defense Information Bureau, Brigadier General Frega Wenas Inkiriwang, stated that opening the History Corridor to the people aims to change the public perception of the ministry as being hard to access.

“We hope this corridor can educate people about national struggles that the current generation might overlook or have limited access to," Inkiriwang remarked during the opening of the History Corridor.

According to the bureau head, the corridor educational tour serves as a reminder that Indonesia is a great and sovereign nation that fought hard for independence.

He explained that the initiative for the History Corridor originated with President Prabowo Subianto during his tenure as Minister of Defense under the 7th Indonesian President, Joko Widodo.

At that time, Prabowo was keen to adorn one of the corridors in the ministry's building with artifacts and historical details about Indonesia's struggles from 1945 to 2019.

Currently, a decision has been made under Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin's leadership to allow public access to the History Corridor.

Inkiriwang noted that the History Corridor is now open to the public for free every Saturday, once a month. During the grand opening, 150 people, organized into five groups, were allowed to visit.

Each group, comprising 30 people, had the opportunity to explore the History Corridor for a duration of 45 minutes to an hour.

Inkiriwang indicated that the frequency of educational tours may be increased to twice a month or even weekly, contingent on circumstances.

In addition to touring the History Corridor, visitors can also view the domestically manufactured main weapon system and defense vehicles, including the Maung Garuda and various tanks.
