This agreement was reached during a meeting between the two ministers on the sidelines of the India - Indonesia CEOs Forum, organized by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in New Delhi on Saturday (January 25).
"We have agreed with India to assign a technical team to address all technical issues and challenges. We will hold another bilateral meeting in mid-February 2025 in New Delhi," Hartarto stated on Saturday.
He further said that the concrete step is expected to boost Indonesia's exports and enhance trade relations between the two countries.
At the meeting, Hartarto and Goyal discussed various strategic issues, especially in trade and investment.
The initial discussion focused on the trade balance between Indonesia and India, which recorded a significant surplus for Indonesia, and on various efforts to increase bilateral trade, which has nearly reached US$27 billion in 2023, with a growth trend of 20.54 percent from 2019 to 2023.
The meeting also addressed various technical issues related to trade barriers, including permits, quotas, non-tariff measures, and customs procedures, as well as challenges concerning Indonesia's palm oil and coal exports to India.
Additionally, the two ministers discussed import quantity safeguards through quota limitations for low-ash metallurgical coke from Indonesia, along with technical issues related to the trade of various other commodities.
Ministers Hartarto and Goyal agreed to appoint technical teams from both countries to comprehensively address various technical challenges in trade.
