Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Ministry (KP2MI) is demanding transparency from the Malaysian authority regarding the shooting incident involving Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia.

Minister Abdul Kadir Karding, who accompanied President Prabowo Subianto during his visit to Malaysia, stated that his side is coordinating with the Foreign Ministry to ensure access to the Indonesian victims currently under Malaysian supervision.

"According to information, the access will be opened on Wednesday, and we press for transparent enforcement of the law regarding the case," Karding noted in his written statement on Monday.

According to the minister, the Indonesian government stressed the need for just and transparent law enforcement to achieve justice for the victims.

Karding also expressed condolences over the incident in Tanjung Rhu in Malaysia's Selangor, which resulted in the death of an Indonesian migrant and injuries to four others.

As the government body responsible for safeguarding Indonesian migrant workers, the ministry has promptly coordinated with relevant bodies, including the Indonesian embassy, the police attaché, and the local authority, to investigate the matter.

Karding noted that the ministry is facilitating medical care for the injured victims and managing arrangements for the deceased while also forming an advocacy team to provide legal assistance to them.

"We have also promptly contacted the victims' families to ensure information clarity regarding the case," he stated.

A group of Indonesian migrants was shot by officers of the Malaysian Coast Guard (APMM) while allegedly attempting to leave Malaysia illegally on Friday (January 24) early morning, resulting in one fatality and injuries to four others.

Confirming the incident, the Indonesian Foreign Ministry's director for the protection of Indonesians, Judha Nugraha, stated that the victims were likely shot after resisting arrest by APMM officers when their boat was intercepted. He added that the investigation into the victims' identities is ongoing.
