The ministry's Director General of Human Rights Services and Compliance, Munafrizal Manan, noted that the incident claimed the life of one Indonesian, left one Indonesian migrant worker in critical condition, and caused injuries to three others.
"We urge for transparent and impartial legal accountability from Malaysian law enforcement agencies against APMM officers who committed the inhumane act," he noted in a written statement received here on Wednesday.
The ministry condemned the incident and urged the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) to be proactive, professional, and independent in monitoring the case by upholding human rights for all.
The ministry also called on the Indonesian National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) to proactively communicate and coordinate with SUHAKAM, especially since the two commissions have already signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on human rights.
The shooting occurred on Friday, January 24, at around 3:00 a.m. local time, when APMM officers opened fire on a vessel in the waters off Tanjung Rhu, Selangor, allegedly after passengers resisted arrest.
The Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur stated that the body of the deceased victim, identified only as B, will be repatriated to Indonesia following an autopsy, while the other four individuals have received hospital treatment.
Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Minister Abdul Kadir Karding said the body of B, a Riau resident, will be repatriated on Thursday (January 30).
The Ministry of Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection has coordinated with the Riau Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Office (BP3MI) and the local government regarding the repatriation of the body.
The ministry condemned the incident and urged the Malaysian government to immediately investigate and take firm action against APMM patrol officers if the use of excessive force is confirmed.
