Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka visited residential areas in Surabaya City, East Java, to personally greet residents, listen to their aspirations, and identify the actual problems they face.

According to a statement received from his secretariat here on Wednesday, Gibran paid a visit to Malang Tengah Village, Tegalsari Sub-district, on Tuesday (January 28) night.

"This spontaneous visit was dedicated to heeding the aspirations, hopes, and concerns of local residents," the secretariat stated.

In the village, the vice president explored alleys, engaged in conversations with locals, and distributed books and stationery to children.

Gibran, in a post shared on his social media account, emphasized that he is always thrilled to meet and connect with his constituents directly.

"I am always excited to greet people. I did not plan this visit, as we just happened to stop by Malang Tengah Village, Surabaya, East Java, during our trip in a bid to directly listen to the people as they voice their aspirations and complaints," he noted.

In some videos he uploaded, residents of Malang Tengah Village appeared enthusiastic in welcoming him, with some of them calling out, "Mr. Gibran! Mr. Gibran!"

While exploring the alleys of the village, the vice president shook hands with the residents and accepted their requests for photographs.

According to his secretariat's release, Gibran highlighted the need for the government to make its presence felt among the people, especially in densely populated areas such as Malang Tengah Village.

Earlier in the afternoon, he also visited a similar area in Kapasan Samping Village located in the Simokerto Sub-district of Surabaya.

Simokerto is registered as one of Surabaya's most populous areas, with around 15 thousand people residing there.

In Kapasan Samping Village, the former mayor of Solo explored alleys, conversed with locals, and handed out a variety of goods, such as staple commodities, books, stationery, t-shirts, and bags.
