Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public Works is fast-tracking the reopening of road access and installation of Bailey bridges to address the aftermath of landslides and floods in Petungkriyono Sub-district, Pekalongan District, Central Java.

Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo stated that efforts are focused on clearing landslide debris and removing fallen trees to restore road access for the community.

"First, we carried out detailed mapping by using drones. We will prioritize opening access first. We do not want the residents to be isolated," he remarked on Thursday.

The ministry's National Road Implementation Office (BBPJN) for Central Java-Yogyakarta has mobilized various heavy equipment, including a PC-50 mini excavator, two PC 75 units, and a PC 70 breaker, to clear the obstructed road section from Kasimbar Village to Kafe Allo, reaching the Jimat 2 Bridge in Petungkriono Village.

The minister added that larger equipment, such as an excavator, will be dispatched immediately to accelerate the reconstruction of roads cut off by landslides.

His side is also prioritizing the installation of emergency bridges (Bailey bridges) to temporarily replace the bridge that collapsed due to flash floods.

The BBPJN Central Java-Yogyakarta has prepared one Bailey bridge unit as an emergency bridge at Jimat Bridge 2 in Kayupuring Village.

Hanggodo remarked that the Bailey bridge is expected to facilitate the residents' daily activities following the flooding.

In addition to deploying heavy equipment for road and river management, the ministry is addressing drinking water and sanitation needs for affected communities.

The Central Java Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW) Emergency Response Task Force is currently assessing the facilities and infrastructure needs to support affected communities.

The team is also conducting volunteer operations and providing essential services, including a public kitchen, six public hydrants with a two-thousand-liter capacity, six portable toilets, and two water tankers with a four-thousand-liter capacity.
