"We are ready with the regulations and land (for Qatar). They said they wanted to build housing for the lower middle class," he said.
According to the minister, the housing program will use state land, as directed by President Prabowo Subianto.
"The land will be provided by the state, as mandated by the President, using Indonesian law as well," he said.
He informed that both countries have agreed to cooperate and signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the housing sector on funding for one million homes for low-income people (MBR).
The MoU signing was witnessed by Prabowo and was carried out between Sirait and Qatari investor Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al Thani at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.
The funding will be provided under a government-to-government scheme between Qatar and Indonesia.
With the cooperation, Qatar has become the first foreign investor to take part in Prabowo's priority program of building three million homes for low-income people every year.
The housing will come up on land owned by institutions and ministries, such as state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and the Directorate General of State Assets (DJKN) of the Ministry of Finance, Sirait informed.
He said that the land provision will be carried out through collaboration so that the construction of one million houses can be started immediately to meet the target.
He added that the intended land will be focused in urban areas given the government's priority to provide housing to urban communities.
The minister then emphasized the importance of efforts and determination in housing development to reach more people in need, including in terms of ensuring the availability of land, efficiency, tax reductions, and ease of licensing.
