Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions (PDT) has slashed its 2025 budget by Rp1 trillion (US$59 million) as a follow-up to the budget efficiency policy.

Chairman of Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Lasarus, made this announcement during a hearing meeting with several ministries on Thursday.

"The 2025 budget that we approved was Rp2.1 trillion, which was reduced to Rp1 trillion. Thus, the final budget for the PDT Ministry in 2025 is Rp1.1 trillion (US$68 million)," Lasarus remarked.

Commission V approved the budget cut during the meeting.

However, PDT Minister Yandri Susanto, who was also present at the meeting, did not specify which items or programs would be affected by the efficiency policy.

Lasarus indicated that the specifics would be discussed in a working meeting next week between the two parties.

He explained that this step was taken so the discussion could be focused on one ministry, as today's meeting was also attended by representatives from other ministries, such as the Ministry of Public Works, the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas, and the Ministry of Transmigration, as well as the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and the Search and Rescue Agency.

President Prabowo Subianto had earlier issued Presidential Instruction 1 of 2025, which mandated a Rp306 trillion (US$18 billion) reduction in the government budget for the 2025 State Budget and Regional Budget.

Specifically, the ministries/institutions' budget was requested to be Rp256 trillion (US$15 billion) for efficiency, and transfers to regions (TKD) are Rp50.59 trillion (US$3 billion).

On a separate occasion, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati stated that the president initiated the budget efficiency to allocate funds to more important programs for the community, such as the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG), food and energy self-sufficiency, and improvements to the health sector.
