Speaking at the frequency band launch in Jakarta, Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) Minister Meutya Hafid said that her ministry, which is a part of the alliance, believes that reliable Internet connectivity is essential for Indonesia to advance in the digital era.
She highlighted that the launch of the frequency band, which provides an additional 1,200 MHz of spectrum, marks a notable milestone in Indonesia's digital transformation.
The 6 GHz frequency band will allow for the operation of Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 that can deliver faster Internet connectivity with lower latency, she informed.
Hafid said that in addition to boosting connectivity in the digital space, the opening of the more reliable frequency band is a strategic step to solidify the foundation of Indonesia's digital economy and education sector.
The minister explained that data transfer speeds of up to 46 Gbps enabled by Wi-Fi 7 are expected to bring about a wide range of new economic opportunities and help businesses and industries operate more efficiently.
She also noted that the education sector is becoming increasingly digitized, resulting in a higher level of dependence on fast and reliable Internet connections to support convenient learning activities.
She further emphasized that the introduction of Wi-Fi 7 can be viewed as a move by Indonesia to solidify its leadership in Southeast Asia and highlight the pivotal role technology plays in determining a country's competitiveness.
In addition to the Komdigi Ministry, ITA includes other government institutions, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), and private companies, including the National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN), SOEs Ministry, Telkom Indonesia, Pertamina, GoTo, Global Extreme, and PLN.
