Jakarta (ANTARA) - Legislator Muhammad Khozin said that in relation to National Press Day, celebrated every February 9, the press in the current digital era has successfully collaborated with internet users (netizens) to supervise public issues together.

"The press and internet users work together to address public concerns. This situation is beneficial for our democracy," Khozin said here on Sunday.

As a former journalist, he mentioned that the trend of viral events frequently appearing in public spaces prompts the press to respond by applying journalistic principles.

"The press follows journalistic principles by verifying, validating, and ensuring that the information circulating is accurate by applying the 'cover both sides' principle," he stated.

He believes that amidst the overwhelming amount of information on social media and digital platforms, the press remains important in ensuring that all information circulating in the public is trustworthy and can be accounted for.

"The role of the press is irreplaceable when it comes to providing accurate information to the public," he said.

He noted that the Indonesian press has successfully adapted to the rapid digital development in the country. He believes that this adaptation allows the press to continue to thrive in the digital era.

"The Indonesian press has successfully embraced digital platforms. The challenge lies in creating a compatible business environment for the press amidst the swift rise of social media," he said.

For this reason, he encouraged the Indonesian press to continue growing and evolving, both in fulfilling its role as a pillar of democracy and in developing the media business.

"Hopefully, the press in Indonesia will become more advanced and adaptable to the increasingly massive digital developments," he said.
