Jakarta (ANTARA) - Secretary of the Security Council of Russia, Sergei Shoigu, has invited Indonesia to the 2025 edition of Army, an annual international military-technical forum, which is scheduled to take place in the next few months in Russia.

Shoigu extended the invitation during a meeting with Minister of Defense, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, at the headquarters of the Defense Ministry in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.

"Indonesia has been invited to attend the event, which draws participation from 100 countries every year," head of the ministry's information bureau, Brigadier General Frega Ferdinand Wenas Inkiriwang, said.

He added that the invitation reflects the success of Indonesia and Russia in maintaining harmonious relations.

Indonesia earlier invited the Russian Navy to the ORRUDA bilateral military exercise in the Java Sea in November last year, he noted.

Inkiriwang said that at the Army Forum, Indonesia will have the opportunity to showcase its defense equipment and systems as well as obtain valuable information on military technology from Russia and other participating countries.

He highlighted that the invitation aligns with ongoing talks about a scheme of cooperation in exchange for defense equipment between Indonesia and Russia.

The official, however, did not specify the exact date for the Army Forum or the kind of equipment Indonesia will display there.

He expressed the hope that Indonesia's participation in the planned forum would lead to even stronger ties with Russia, particularly in the defense and security sectors.

The Army forum showcases land, naval, and aerial defense equipment from 100 countries and simulations of war operations.
