Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has ordered a reduction in toll fees and airfares to ease travel for the public during the holy month of Ramadan and the Eid al-Fitr holidays.

"All relevant ministers must continuously monitor and ensure that transportation facilities and public services operate smoothly and safely to support the flow of travelers," he said on Friday.

This policy is part of the government's efforts to facilitate smooth homecoming travel and ensure public comfort during the fasting month and holiday celebrations.

Prabowo stated that airfare reductions will take effect in the next two weeks.

"We also plan to reduce airfare for the next two weeks and lower toll fees on several roads during the Eid al-Fitr and Nyepi holidays, which fall close together this year," he said.

Prabowo instructed the Minister of Transportation, the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, the Minister of Public Works, and all relevant officials to continue monitoring and ensuring the smooth operation of transportation facilities and public services during the holiday travel period.

Earlier, an economist from the Center for Economic and Law Studies (Celios), Nailul Huda, stated that offering airfare and toll discounts during the Eid holiday could stimulate the economies of homecoming destinations.

"We hope the money saved will be spent more on homecoming destinations. This way, economic circulation during Eid can increase, accelerating growth in those areas," Huda added.
