"We will not hesitate to create a blacklist because we want to protect the people," he said after attending the groundbreaking ceremony for housing for Indonesian National Police personnel in Karawang, West Java, on Tuesday.
Minister Sirait emphasized that his ministry does not wish to allow irresponsible developers the opportunity to participate in subsidized housing projects. Therefore, the blacklist will be used as a guide for the public and policymakers to be more cautious in selecting developers.
"I have already asked Tapera and housing distributors to be careful in giving opportunities to developers who have been proven to be irresponsible and lack quality standards as agreed," he added.
He informed that he met with President Prabowo Subianto to discuss efforts to increase the number of decent housing units for low-income communities.
The Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas is targeting to build 220 thousand decent housing units for the public this year, with 118 thousand units completed between October 2024 and March 2025.
The central government has initiated a program to build 3 million housing units per year to address Indonesia's housing shortage. The program will seek to build 2 million housing units in rural areas and 1 million units in urban areas.
Sirait expressed the hope that private developers will support the program. He said he believes the program will be successful with the cooperation of various stakeholders.
