Jakarta (ANTARA) - Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf, along with his deputy Agus Jabo Priyono, visited residents taking shelter at Wisma Tanah Air and Binawan University in East Jakarta following widespread flooding in the Greater Jakarta region.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Social Affairs, Yusuf and Priyono visited the refugee centers on Wednesday night (March 5) to assess the conditions of the flood victims and offer words of encouragement during this challenging time.

The minister emphasized that the visits were made to ensure the safety of all flood victims and that they receive adequate assistance, as instructed by President Prabowo Subianto.

"As instructed by Mr. President, we immediately acted to ensure that the refugees' needs for food, clean water, bedding, and health services are met. We cannot afford to leave anyone struggling to access assistance," he remarked.

Yusuf also took the opportunity to lift the spirits of the children, interact with the elderly, and listen to their stories about the floods.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I want you to remain calm during this situation. If you need anything, you can reach out to our field officers," he told the refugees.

The Ministry of Social Affairs has provided emergency aid, including 40 mattresses, 40 blankets, 30 packages of children's clothing, and 100 ready-to-eat meal packages to those sheltering at Binawan University.

For the evacuees at Wisma Tanah Air, the ministry delivered 99 mattresses, 100 blankets, 240 ready-to-eat meal packages, and four packages of children's clothing.

Additionally, the ministry has deployed two teams: one to provide psychological assistance to children and the elderly and another to collect data on the number of refugees and their specific needs.

The Ministry of Social Affairs also reiterated its commitment to coordinating with regional governments and other relevant parties to ensure the smooth distribution of aid.
