“It also has a real positive impact on the non-oil and gas sector, which we recorded at 17.31 percent,” the ministry’s director of small and medium industries for food, furniture, and building materials, Bayu Fajar Nugroho, said here on Sunday.
Therefore, the Ministry of Industry highlights the continuous synergy between furniture and craft associations in increasing export value as well as meeting the needs of domestic furniture and craft products, including through the Jogja International Furniture and Craft Fair Indonesia (JIFFINA) exhibition, which takes place on March 8-11, 2025.
Based on the ministry’s data, the furniture industry contributed 1.2 percent with its export value reaching US$1.91 billion, or an increase of 3.2 percent from the previous year.
"So we see this trend is quite good even though there are still some obstacles,” Bayu noted.
He also said that furniture industry exports are still dominated by countries in the European Union, the US, and Japan.
"And now we are also looking at South Asia, such as India and Africa, as one of the potential markets that we might be able to see together later," he said.
Meanwhile, data from Expert Market Research showed the global furniture market in 2024 reached US$660.35 billion and is expected to grow by 49 percent.
"This macro condition actually gives us Indonesia market opportunity penetration, which is currently only filled by Indonesia by 0.28 percent, so the opportunity is still very large," he added.
