Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir delivered the remarks during a meeting with head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Regional Delegation for Indonesia and Timor-Leste, Vincent Ochilet.
"Indonesia supports the role of the ICRC as an impartial institution in humanitarian issues, including in the implementation of the ceasefire in Gaza and the distribution of humanitarian aid for Palestine," Nasir said, according to a statement released on Tuesday.
He also expressed appreciation and support for the ICRC's cooperation with Indonesia at the national level in advancing international humanitarian law.
The ICRC's efforts at the global level to strengthen IHL include the launch of the Global Initiative to Galvanize Political Commitment on International Humanitarian Law in September 2024.
The initiative is intended to address various challenges to IHL, considering the increasing number of IHL violations in various conflict areas, including Palestine.
Indonesia has joined the initiative and will be one of the co-chairs of the"Updating Naval Warfare Rules" working group.
During the meeting, Nasir and Ochilet discussed a number of ICRC collaborations with Indonesia for 2025.
They include the holding of the ICRC annual briefing with all relevant ministries/institutions as well as plans for collaboration with religious communities in Indonesia to discuss the relationship between IHL and Islamic values and law.
The ICRC's collaboration with Indonesia in distributing humanitarian aid has also continued to strengthen.
Ochilet expressed appreciation for cooperation with Indonesia in distributing humanitarian aid to Palestine, Afghanistan, and Myanmar through the ICRC in 2024.
Indonesia is currently reviewing opportunities for cooperation with the ICRC to distribute humanitarian aid to Palestine in 2025.
In addition to cooperation, Nasir and Ochilet also discussed efforts to strengthen ICRC cooperation with ASEAN in the field of humanitarian assistance and the advancement of IHL, including through the AHA Center.
"Indonesia's support for the implementation of the ICRC's humanitarian mandate is in line with the mandate of the Constitution to participate in advancing world peace and security," Nasir emphasized.
