Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar said the e-sports industry has grown rapidly and has great potential to create jobs in various sectors.

"E-sports is not just a competition, but has become an industry that involves many sectors, from training, publication, to organizing tournaments. This opens up broad economic opportunities and creates new jobs for Indonesian people," Irene said in her press statement on Sunday.

Irene, who attended the biggest e-sports tournament in Indonesia, “Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Indonesia Season 15” held in Jakarta on Saturday (March 15), revealed that e-sports also contributes to the tourism sector by attracting fans from abroad.

In addition, e-sports as a sustainable creative economy business model can be a new engine of national economic growth.

"E-sports has similarities with other sports industries in Indonesia, which require a supporting ecosystem in order to develop professionally and sustainably," she added.

Therefore, the Ministry of Creative Economy continues to strive to support the development of the gaming industry, especially e-sports, so it can compete globally and provide real economic benefits to the community.

The hope is that the games, originally made by Indonesian creators, can succeed and contribute to increasing the country's foreign exchange, she said.

Meanwhile, Head of Business Development Moonton Indonesia/PT Monster Entertainment Martinus Manurung stated that the gaming industry, especially e-sports, is in great demand by the public.

Therefore, Moonton presents the MPL Career program to open up quality jobs for the younger generation.

"The MPL Career program offers various job opportunities in the e-sports industry. This platform provides valuable work experience in various roles related to organizing e-sports events, while also showing various career paths that can be taken in this industry," Martinus said.

"We hope that this program can be the first step for young talents to build a career in e-sports," he added.

MPL Indonesia is not only a competition for the best teams in the country, but also a catalyst for the development of a larger gaming ecosystem.

MPL Indonesia is the highest league in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) e-sports scene. Every season, this tournament always attracts great attention, both in online and offline formats, with viewers from within and outside the country.

MPL is also the main route for professional teams and young Indonesian talents to compete at the international level, such as in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Southeast Asia Cup (MSC) and the MLBB World Championship (M Series), which bring together the world's best teams.

In 2025, MPL Indonesia will enter its 15th season with nine participating teams and a total prize pool of Rp4.86 billion.
