At an online press conference on Thursday, deputy chair of the KPAI, Jasra Putra, said that Eid al-Fitr homecoming activities not only affect the transportation sector but also tourist attractions in the intended destinations of homecoming travelers.
He appealed to regional governments and tourist attraction managers to ensure the comfort and safety of children, especially amid the potential for increased tourist visits to homecoming destinations.
Putra suggested providing information that can be accessed by parents and continuously updating it as part of efforts to protect children from various potential risks and ensure their safety and health.
"Hopefully, this will remain available, and of course, the KPAI will continue to supervise it," he said.
He made the appeal while providing several recommendations for protecting children's rights during the Eid homecoming period, following KPAI's findings of several violations of children's rights during previous homecoming periods.
Those violations include children not being registered in passenger manifests, getting separated from their parents due to overcrowding, and joining the homecoming exodus on motorcycles, which is considered to be high risk.
Furthermore, children were also at risk of sexual violence and having their other rights violated during mass travel.
In 2024, KPAI recorded 2,057 cases of child rights violations, such as physical, psychological, and sexual violence, with the highest cases in the clusters of family environment and alternative care and special protection for children.
The Ministry of Transportation has projected that 146.48 million Indonesians will participate in the homecoming exodus this year.
