Solo (ANTARA) - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka took orphaned children shopping for Eid clothes at a store on Jalan Slamet Riyadi in Solo, Central Java, on Tuesday.

He invited 85 children from various orphanages to join him for the shopping trip.

The children, who selected clothes according to their individual preferences, appeared excited to participate in the event.

On the occasion, Gibran was accompanied by Surakarta Mayor Respati Ardi.

Speaking to reporters, Gibran explained that he took the children shopping to bring them happiness.

"This is the first time, and this time, I am accompanied by the mayor (Ardi) as well, so the children can be happy with their new clothes," he remarked.

Mayor Respati explained that the orphans were selected based on data from the Surakarta City Social Affairs Office.

He noted that the children came from seven orphanages, and each was given a shopping budget of Rp500,000.

"The children bought a variety of items, including clothes, shoes, and glasses," he added.
