Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Adies Kadir, urged the government to take anticipatory measures to prevent an over-import of products from countries affected by the United States’ reciprocal tariff policy.

"The DPR supports the government’s efforts and coordination to mitigate the risks of financial instability that may arise in the near future," Kadir stated here on Monday.

He believes that the US reciprocal tariff policy has opened a new chapter in the global trade war.

Kadir emphasized the need for a communication strategy to explain government policies aimed at preserving financial stability in the country.

He also highlighted the importance of mitigating and reducing negative sentiments that could affect the capital market, stock prices, money market liquidity, and the rupiah exchange rate.

Kadir also expressed support for the government's prompt response and strategic measures in responding to the US reciprocal tariff policy by increasing competitiveness, maintaining market confidence, and improving the investment climate to maintain the economic growth momentum.

Kadir highlighted that one of the steps taken by the government is strengthening trade and investment cooperation among ASEAN countries, which can be expanded to other economic blocs where Indonesia is a member, such as BRICS, OECD, and so on, to address various global challenges.

Hence, he stressed that the government needs to maintain and nurture strong relations with trading partner countries, including the US, through diplomacy and negotiations concerning the reciprocal tariff policy.

To boost trade transactions and improve the investment climate, Kadir fully supports President Prabowo Subianto's directive to take strategic and structural improvement measures, including the deregulation policy.
