Samarinda, E Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Development of Indonesia's new capital, Nusantara City (IKN), is progressing as planned, contrary to rumors of being stalled, Governor Rudy Mas'ud of the neighboring East Kalimantan stated after recently visiting the new capital site.

"The new capital's development is not stalled. Yesterday (April 6), I went for an incognito visit there, and I found the construction continues," Mas'ud stated during a meeting with local journalists here on Monday (April 7).

The governor spoke of having visited the new capital city site multiple times in the past and that his latest visit on April 6 was to "see the current progress and to debunk the rumor" about Nusantara City's stalled development.

The governor cited the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) data which indicated that over 64 thousand people, including domestic and foreign tourists, have visited the new capital from March 27 to April 5, 2025.

The foreign tourists came from Malaysia, Brunei, China, South Korea, and European countries, he added.

"I am amused by the enthusiasm of visitors who want to observe the new capital development," according to Mas'ud, whose province he leads surrounded the new capital territory.

Hence, the governor urged local journalists to inform the world that the new capital's development is proceeding as usual and has drawn public visitors even before it becomes operational.

Journalists are also encouraged to visit the new capital to observe the ongoing development, record and photograph all progress there, and report it through their media outlets.

Mas'ud further suggested media colleagues visit the Nusantara City VVIP Airport and, when departing from the new capital, pass through the Balang Island Bridge and the IKN Toll Road that reflect the new capital's development progress.

"Media colleagues, please spread this good news to the public, not only for the Indonesian public but also to the world," Mas'ud remarked.
