Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government is considering offering free land plots to establish embassy complexes in an area designated as the diplomatic compound within Indonesia's new capital, Nusantara (IKN).

Head of the IKN Authority (OIKN), Basuki Hadimuljono, announced in Jakarta on Monday that he intends to present this proposal to President Prabowo Subianto.

He explained that the discourse on offering free pieces of land is directed towards encouraging and facilitating Indonesia's allies in relocating the headquarters of their diplomatic activities in the future capital city before 2028.

"The decision is not mine to make, but I will convey this proposal to Mr. President in a bid to expedite the presence of foreign envoys," he emphasized.

Hadimuljono then highlighted President Prabowo's target of 2028 for IKN to function as the center of political activities, consequently prompting the establishment of foreign embassies.

The former minister of public works and public housing highlighted that the OIKN had prepared 62.9 hectares of land dedicated to the planned diplomatic compound to reach this end.

The compound, situated in Nusantara's Central Government Core Area (KIPP), is envisioned as a compact and integrated facility for foreign diplomatic officials.

This diplomatic premise is also designed to align with international standards and Nusantara's forest city concept, which advocates sustainable development.

According to the plan, the area will encompass entertainment venues, retail and commercial spaces, restaurants, and parks.

In addition to the diplomatic compound, the OIKN has prepared land for offices of international organizations in the KIPP.

Under President Prabowo’s administration, the development of Nusantara continues, with plans to govern it as the political capital city in the next four to five years.

Construction for executive institutions, such as ministries and national agencies, is nearly complete, and work has begun on buildings for legislative and judicial institutions.
