Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) is ready to summon the Health Ministry, Padjajaran University's (Unpad's) Faculty of Medicine, and Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) to address the rape case involving an RSHS resident doctor.

Additionally, the House will call on the Indonesian Medical Council and the Ministry of Education and Science.

"This aims to seek clarification, evaluate the medical personnel guidance and supervision system, and prevent similar cases from recurring," Deputy Chairperson of Commission IX of the DPR RI, Nihayatul Wafiroh, noted in a statement on Friday.

According to Wafiroh, the case highlights systemic failures in hospital supervision and patient protection.

Wafiroh pressed for responding promptly through comprehensive and systemic improvements to address sexual violence allegedly committed by an anesthesia resident doctor from Unpad at RSHS.

"We ask the Ministry of Health and the Indonesian Medical Council to conduct an evaluation and take disciplinary action against the medical personnel involved," she remarked.

She urged Unpad and RSHS to strengthen the reporting system, victim protection, and supervision of specialist doctor education participants.

In addition, the Ministry of Health stressed the need to provide psychological, legal, and health assistance to victims as a form of restoring victims' rights, as mandated by Articles 55 and 64 of the Health Law, she remarked.

The West Java Regional Police had earlier arrested a doctor identified as PAP, 31, a participant in the Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDS) of Unpad's Faculty of Medicine, who was accused of sexually assaulting a patient's family member at RSHS Bandung, West Java.

From the initial investigation, the police revealed indications of abnormal sexual behavior in the perpetrator.

Unpad Chancellor, Professor Arief S. Kartasasmita, has also expelled the perpetrator and stated that the decision to dismiss the student reflects the institution's firm stance in responding to sexual violence allegations and violations of the law and norms.
