Jakarta (ANTARA) - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati is exploring opportunities to secure funding from the European Investment Bank (EIB) for the development of integrated and low-emission public transportation in Indonesia.

During a meeting with EIB President Nadia Calvino, Indrawati outlined how connected and environmentally-friendly public transportation can be a solution for Indonesia, especially its big cities.

"Connected and environmentally-friendly public transportation can be a solution to reduce carbon emissions resulting from the high volume of private vehicle use, especially in big cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya," she said in an Instagram post on Friday.

The EIB has been paying attention to the development of renewable energy, and Indonesia has committed to cutting carbon emissions and achieving net-zero emissions by 2060.

"Therefore, we are exploring the potential for more flexible and comprehensive cooperation, especially in the field of technology that supports the energy transition process," Indrawati said.

Earlier, the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation and the French Ministry of Trade discussed efforts to strengthen strategic partnership in land, sea, air, and railway transportation, as well as in improving human resources (HR).

"This discussion was carried out to ensure that the established cooperation will have a real impact on both countries," Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said after a meeting with French Minister of Trade, Laurent Saint-Martin, in Jakarta.
