She noted that the event coincides with the 25th anniversary of the PUIC, which was founded in 1999.
In a statement released on Saturday, Maharani highlighted the strategic significance of hosting the conference, describing it as an opportunity for Indonesia to reaffirm its leadership in championing a democratic, inclusive, and solution-driven diplomacy for the Muslim world.
“Hosting this conference is not merely a ceremonial task -- it represents moral leadership and a key aspect of our foreign policy,” she remarked.
Maharani underlined that Indonesia, particularly the DPR, stands ready to serve as a bridge for dialogue, collaboration, and transformation among parliaments in the Muslim world.
The conference, which carries the theme 'Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience', aims to underscore that the strength and resilience of the Muslim world are rooted in clean, transparent, and accountable governance.
To this end, the DPR is committed to steering PUIC discussions toward tangible outcomes, particularly in addressing the multidimensional crises affecting many OIC member countries, with a strong focus on advocating for Palestinian independence.
“Parliamentary diplomacy today demands concrete actions. Issues such as Palestine, institutional capacity-building, and regional peace must be at the forefront of our agenda,” she stressed.
The 19th PUIC Conference is expected to draw around 500 participants from member and observer countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Maharani also expressed optimism that the conference will establish a stronger platform for leadership and solidarity among OIC parliaments, helping unify voices and champion humanitarian values.
“We hope the presence of leaders and representatives from OIC countries will further strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation and shared commitments for the future,” she concluded.
