Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia and Thailand agreed to intensify security cooperation to address transnational crimes, including online fraud and human trafficking.

“In our security and defense cooperation, we discussed the issue of transnational crime, especially online fraud networks and human trafficking, as well as drug trafficking,” Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated in a joint press statement with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra at the Government House, Bangkok, on Monday.

During his state visit to Thailand, Prabowo also expressed his appreciation for the Thai government's efforts in rescuing and repatriating numerous Indonesians from online scam syndicates operating on the Myanmar border.

"I would like to express my gratitude for Thailand's firm steps in handling this issue and assisting Indonesia in returning the affected Indonesian citizens," Prabowo remarked.

President Prabowo and PM Shinawatra agreed to increase security cooperation through visits and closer dialogue between leaders and institutions.

In addition, Prabowo expressed Indonesia's keenness to bolster maritime security collaboration, strengthen counterterrorism efforts and cybersecurity cooperation, as well as expand joint military exercises and defense industry cooperation.

These efforts will be advanced by optimizing meetings such as the High-Level Committee and the Annual Security Dialogue.
