Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chair of the Supervisory Board of the Indonesia Business Council, Arsjad Rasjid, expressed hope that cooperation between the governments of Indonesia and China would lead to knowledge and technology transfer.

According to Rasjid, Chinese investors are expected not only to bring capital but also help develop the capacity of Indonesian human resources.

“The most important aspect is the transfer of knowledge and technology,” he noted at the Presidential Complex, Jakarta, on Sunday.

He assessed that the cooperation is not merely oriented towards investment or the financial aspect, but also strengthening the two countries’ people-to-people contact.

With the transfer of technology and the improvement of skills, cooperation is expected to have a broader impact on national development.

Rasjid emphasized that promoting knowledge transfer is not only aimed at China but also at all countries that partner with Indonesia.

This is deemed crucial so that Indonesia does not only become an investment destination but also takes part in building technological and knowledge capacity.

President Prabowo Subianto received an official visit from Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Sunday.

On that occasion, the two leaders also witnessed the signing of four memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and eight cooperation documents between Indonesia and China.

The four MoUs signed included one on establishing a cooperation framework to encourage bilateral transactions in local currencies between Bank Indonesia and the People's Bank of China.

Another MoU involves cooperation on economic development policies between Indonesia’s National Economic Council (DEN) and the National Development and Reform Commission of China.

Additionally, Indonesia's coordinating minister for economic affairs and China’s Ministry of Commerce signed an MoU to strengthen economic cooperation for industries and supply chains.

The fourth MoU concerns the Two Countries, Twin Parks cooperation between the Indonesian Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and China’s Ministry of Commerce and the Fujian Provincial Government.

Meanwhile, the eight cooperation documents signed by Indonesia and China included cooperation in tourism, cooperation in agricultural exports, and cooperation between Indonesia’s news agency ANTARA and China’s news agency Xinhua.
