The ministry's director general of pharmaceuticals and medical devices, Lucia Rizka Andalusia, said on Monday that the domestic manufacturing of the medical device is expected to help meet hospitals' needs quickly, since Indonesia has so far imported the technology.
"We have 10 medical devices that are a priority to be produced domestically. Of the ten medical devices, we can produce and have domestically fulfilled seven medical devices, with three of them being CT Scan, MRI, and PET Scan," she informed.
Andalusia expressed the hope that the facility would also accelerate the provision of medical devices to 66 Type C regional general hospitals whose construction has been prioritized by President Prabowo Subianto.
In addition, it is expected to encourage the development of the industry and supply chain sector, and thereby help develop a medical device ecosystem in Indonesia, she said.
"Starting from the raw materials, such as iron for molding. Other equipment is also expected to be domestically sourced," she added.

She said that the production facility marks a significant achievement, given the complexity of CT scanner manufacturing.
"We will have a tender mechanism process. For now, I cannot be sure of the domestic content percentage, but it will be issued in the tender requirements. We hope our domestic products can compete with others," she added.
According to Andalusia, the Health Ministry, together with the Ministry of Industry and the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (Bapeten), will monitor the development of the product to provide great benefits to the public.
The CT scanner production facility is a collaboration between the Health Ministry, GE Healthcare, Kalbe Farma, and Forsta Kalmedic Global.
