Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's House of Representatives' (DPR RI's) Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) condemned Israel’s attack on Iran’s military areas and facilities, stating that the action not only violates national sovereignty but could also potentially escalate regional conflict.

Chairman of BKSAP DPR RI, Mardani Ali Sera, noted in a statement received in Jakarta on Sunday that Israel’s unilateral military action undermines efforts to maintain global peace and stability.

“Attacking the sovereign territory of Iran is a provocative act and very risky. This situation must not be allowed to escalate uncontrolled,” Sera emphasized.

On this basis, BKSAP urges the United Nations to act swiftly and take concrete steps to prevent the situation from deteriorating further.

He stated that preventive and diplomatic measures are necessary to ensure that tensions between Israel and Iran do not escalate into an open conflict that could involve more countries.

Sera also reminded that respect for international law and the United Nations Charter is the foundation for global peace. “Therefore, any violation of these principles must be firmly addressed by the international community,” he added.

All parties need to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could escalate the situation. In the current global context of multiple humanitarian crises and geopolitical tensions, he emphasized the need for de-escalation rather than provocation.

Through BKSAP DPR RI, Sera stated that Indonesia continues to reaffirm its commitment to peaceful conflict resolution and upholding international law.

Another step being taken is to encourage parliaments worldwide to speak out and take the initiative to promote peaceful resolutions, including through parliamentary diplomacy.

“In such a tense situation, the voice of parliaments, as representatives of the world’s people, becomes important to pressure those who tend to use military force unilaterally,” Sera remarked.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched a large-scale military operation against Iran early Friday (June 13). The Israeli Air Force targeted several military sites and nuclear program facilities.

Israeli authorities stated that the operation aimed to prevent threats to the existence of the Zionist state. According to Israeli military and intelligence, Iran is rapidly approaching the “point of no return” in developing nuclear weapons in the near future.

Iranian media reported that several senior military officials and nuclear scientists were killed in the attack. The strikes also targeted nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan, as well as Iranian military bases in the country’s northwest.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, called the attack a crime and warned that Israel would face a “bitter and horrific fate.”

In response, the Islamic Republic of Iran launched Operation True Promise 3. Israeli media reported that dozens of people were casualties in the Iranian operation's attacks.
