“We are currently coordinating with relevant ministries to formulate a derivative provision in the form of a ministerial regulation,” he said at a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He informed that the regulation will refer to several existing legal frameworks, particularly the MSME Law and Government Regulation No. 7 of 2021 concerning the facilitation, protection, and empowerment of cooperatives and MSMEs.
The minister emphasized the need to incorporate insights from key institutions, including the ministries of transportation, communication and digital affairs, and manpower, to advance the plan.
“It is important to align steps with other ministries. I need to first coordinate with several relevant ministries to follow up on the MSME status for online taxi drivers,” he said.
Abdurrahman informed that the status would make online taxi drivers eligible for a range of government incentives, subsidies, and capacity-building programs.
“This aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s directives to carry out initiatives that support a people-oriented economy,” he added.
He then expressed the hope that the new regulation would help online taxi drivers improve their skills and explore opportunities in other business sectors.
The minister first floated the idea of granting MSME status to online taxi drivers on April 15, 2025. He said the proposal would be included in the revised MSME Law, which is expected to come up for deliberations next year.
“The goal is to provide online taxi drivers with a definite legal foundation,” he explained in Jakarta.
