“Indonesia has always been non-aligned. We respect all nations. Our foreign policy is simple: one thousand friends are too few, but one enemy is too many,” he said.
The head of state emphasized Indonesia’s eagerness to maintain friendly ties with all countries. He rejected the notion that the world is currently divided into a number of power blocs.
He also dismissed speculation that his presence at the Russian economic forum signalled a particular political alignment in light of his absence at the G7 Summit in Canada, which was held from June 15–17, 2025.
The Indonesian President asked all parties not to link his presence at the forum with a particular political stance.
He said that the Indonesian government received the 2025 SPIEF invitation earlier, and he joined the forum to honor the invite.
“I had already committed to attending this forum before receiving the invitation to the G7 Summit. That is the only reason (why I did not attend the summit),” he explained.
Taking note of rising global geopolitical tensions, he invited all parties to push for cross-bloc cooperation and cross-border humanitarian missions.
He affirmed Indonesia’s commitment to being a true partner to all parties in the pursuit of peace, stability, and shared prosperity.
“We want to be friends with everyone. Only through friendship and collaboration, we can achieve prosperity together,” he said.
Prabowo visited St. Petersburg from June 18–20. His agenda included meeting President Vladimir Putin on Thursday and attending the SPIEF on Friday.
