Jakarta (ANTARA) - Over 80 regional leaders and deputy leaders departed for the Institute of Public Administration near Bandung, West Java, to participate in the second batch of regional leaders' retreat.

In his remarks during the pre-departure roll call at the Home Ministry on Sunday, the ministry's Secretary General Tomsi Tohir expected the 86 regional leaders to improve self-discipline and acquaint with one another during the retreat.

"This orientation is not merely physical activities, but is intended to improve your self-discipline as a regional leader," Tohir told the participating regional leaders.

"Each district cannot stand on its own and it needs help from its neighbors. For the provinces, it is the same," he added.

According to Tohir, regional leaders are expected to learn about prioritizing national interest rather than selfishly caring only for their provinces during the retreat.

The ministry official said that the nation-first approach among regional leaders will help ensure national development and the sustainability of Indonesia as a unitary state.

"Let your success be our collective success and mark the success of our country," Tohir stated.

Earlier, Deputy Home Minister Bima Arya Sugiarto explained that for the second batch of regional leaders' retreat, participants will be lectured about the principal functions of regional leaders, Astacita government missions, corruption eradication, and national outlook.

The retreat is arranged to be similar to the previous regional leaders' retreat held on February 21-28 at the Military Academy in Magelang, Central Java.

The 86 regional leaders participating in the retreat can be classified into three groups, with the first group comprising inducted regional leaders who did not attend the first retreat in Magelang.

Meanwhile, the second group is leaders whose electoral victory is confirmed by the court following a post-election appeal, and the third group is comprised of leaders elected in repeat elections ordered by the court.
