Danantara Chief Investment Officer Pandu Sjahrir said on Tuesday that the fund aims to study South Korea’s strategies for building a globally successful media and entertainment sector.
“The media industry’s role is fascinating — it has globalized the Korean language through music, films, and other content, despite South Korea’s relatively small population,” he noted.
Sjahrir added that Danantara is exploring investment collaborations with South Korean media and entertainment companies to help bring Indonesian culture to the global stage.
“This is something we’re eager to learn from and invest in so we can raise international awareness of Indonesian culture,” he said.
Park Soo-Deok, Chargé d'Affaires at the South Korean Embassy in Jakarta, welcomed Danantara’s interest, highlighting strong collaboration potential.
“Many Indonesians love Korean dramas and K-pop. This is a great opportunity for cooperation, especially since Indonesia has a large population that actively consumes entertainment and media,” Park said.
Both Sjahrir and Park attended the Korea–Indonesia Economic Partnership Forum in Jakarta on Tuesday, which aims to strengthen the countries' strategic cooperation across various economic sectors.
Earlier, Minister of Culture Fadli Zon noted that Indonesia’s cultural and creative economy contributes an estimated US$80 billion to national GDP.
He said the sector holds significant promise as a key driver of growth and investment, particularly in sub-sectors such as film, music, gaming, animation, fashion, traditional fabrics, and cultural tourism.
